WARATAH HILLS
The vineyard was planted 22-years ago with the help of the iconic and revered wine producer, Phillip Jones (the founder of Bass Phillip Wines), in the French style of close planting and low trellising.
It is nestled in the rolling green hills of South Gippsland, and only a stone’s throw from the beautiful Wilsons Promontory, mainland Australia’s southernmost tip, in a cool, maritime climate. This allows the perfect conditions to grow Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in low intervention styles, thanks to the abundance of rainfall and cooling winds.
Nutrient-rich volcanic soils and red clay, provide a brilliant foundation and unparalleled distinction to the wines from here.
Being one mainland Australia’s southernmost vineyard & cellar doors, Waratah Hills enjoys an iconic landscape to grow and flourish unlike anywhere else in Victoria.
Long-overlooked, with the exception of grass-fed cattle farmers who’ve long recognised its beauty and lushness, the region of South Gippsland is now widely regarded as one of the best Pinot Noir producing regions in Australia.
The Waratah Hills cellar door offers a comfortable, relaxing and friendly location for a lazy afternoon of fine wine and local produce shared with friends.
